Man’s world, a short series on YouTube by YFilms, promotes fifth goal of sustainable development by United Nations, which is to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to build on these achievements to ensure that there is an end to discrimination against women and girls everywhere. There are still gross inequalities in access to paid employment in some regions, and significant gaps between men and women in the labour market. Sexual violence and exploitation, the unequal division of unpaid care and domestic work and discrimination in public decision-making, all remain huge barriers.
It follows the story of a man named Kiran, fed up of the criticism thrown on men, because of this never-ending blame game. Well his wish is granted, leading to a role reversal between men and women. So, now women are conventionally considered breadwinners while men stay home and run the family. The beauty of this show is enhanced by the vivid details kept in mind, for example, EK THI TIGERESS, MCDONNA’S and the middle finger trend being replaced by an O made by index and middle finger. Women dominate streets and top positions in this parallel world whereas modern men fight for equality. A world where wearing a transparent shirt is considered a shame for men, the first episode ends with the protagonist getting his “that time of the month”.
