The Law Auditorium of Panjab University was no less than a flocked up place, as the counseling session for the admission to B.Com carried throughout the four days from July 1st, 2016 to July 4th, 2016. Students from all over North India applied to get admission into this popular course of the varsity, through an online centralized portal the previous month.

The first physical counseling was conducted in four phases- covering students under UT Pool, non-UT Pool, reserved and sports category on respective days.

Day 1: July 1st (Counseling for Non-UT Pool)

With about 15% of the total seats (249 seats out of 1200 seats of BCom) reserved for admission of students outside UT Pool, the first day of the counseling saw students flocking in along with their parents for the same, from places such as UP, Haryana, J&K and Delhi. Most sought after colleges for B.Com course such as MCM and SD, offered only 30 and 36 seats respectively.

A student, Gurusha told PU Mirror, “I secured 93% in +2 and thought that I will get into SD College. But, that seems impossible because of unrealistic seat numbers for outside UT students.

Day 2: July 2nd (Counseling for UT Pool)

The second day of the counseling began with students of Chandigarh waiting for their turn. There were around 1405 seats reserved for the UT Pool, out of which only 123 seats remained in the three colleges of PU, towards the end of the day.

“There are abundance of seats for tricity students. I will surely get into the college of my choice,” said Shriyaa, one of the candidates.

Day 3: July 3rd (Reserved Category)
