This week that year of August 7th to 13th unfolds one of the biggest un-humane event taken place in the history of world- The Nagasaki Atom Bombing. It also tells about the Quit India Movement and marks the death anniversary of our beloved, Sir Rabindranath Tagore. This week also highlights the formation of a terror group- Al Qaeda and the invention of Stainless steel.
The legend who gave us our national anthem, the legend who was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for literature, the legend who gifted us many beautiful poems, the legend who was the face of Bengal– Sh. Rabindranath Tagore, took his last breath on this day in the year 1941. On this day, India lost it’s one of the most humble and beautiful soul ever born. Rabindranath Tagore passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Indian revolution – this part of history was loved by all of us. We all were curious about what happened to our ancestors and how did we gain Independence. It was on this day in the year 1942 that Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement for freedom from British rule in Mumbai (then Bombay). The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement started a buzz that started incidents of violence around the country, but the British acted quickly and arrested thousands of people and kept them in jail till 1945.
Another day of shame for the humanity as the United States dropped a nuclear bomb (FatMan) on Nagasaki, Japan. With total causalities being 64,000 it became the second most dangerous bomb in the history of world. The bomb was dropped at 11:02 a.m., 1,650 feet above the city. The explosion unleashed the equivalent force of 22,000 tons of TNT. This destruction was sufficient enough to convince the Japanese leader to call off war.
Phoolan Devi– the bandit queen was born on this day in the year 1963. When she was 11, she staged a dharna when her cousin sold the family’s land. Only when she was dragged by the elders in the family did she budge. To keep her out of trouble, she was married at the age of 11 to a man in his thirties. From this point onwards, there began conflicting accounts. Since then many events happen and resulted in making Phoolan Devi as a legend.
On this day in the year 1988, it is believed that Al-Qaeda is formed after a meeting between Osama Bin Laden, Zawahiri and Dr Fadl in Peshawar, Pakistan. Al-Qaeda operates as a network made up of Islamic extremist, Salafist jihadists. It has been designated as a terrorist group by the UNSC, the NATO, the EU, the US, Russia, India, and various other countries. Al-Qaeda has mounted attacks on civilian and military targets in various countries, including the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings, the September 11 attacks, and the 2002 Bali bombings.

Also, in the year 2016, American swimmer Michael Phelps ended his career at Rio Olympics winning 4×100 medley relay, his 23rd Gold medal, as world’s most decorated Olympian.
