The much awaited ‘Baba Nights’, presented by the UnTied Laces, finally happened on April 28th at the JPA Toddler’s World School, Sector 10, Panchkula. Organised in the tricity for the first time ever, this was a one of it’s kind event where various art forms came together to form a beautiful symphony. The main purpose of organizing this event was to provide budding artists a platform to experiment and showcase their talent in front of an enthusiastic audience.
On being asked as to why UTL decided to organise this event in city beautiful, Manahar Kumar, one of the organizers, said, “Chandigarh is my hometown and I wanted to do something here to get people out of their homes. Chandigarh doesn’t have a performing culture where artists get to showcase their art. We have organised 9 such events in Manipal where it all started but I wanted to bring that culture to my city. We hope to continue organizing such events in the future as well.” The name ‘Baba Nights’ was coined by Manahar and his group of close friends who used to called each other baba (and it has nothing to do with their love for Baba Sehgal)!
The event kick started with an improv-session where the audience of about 50 people were made to play a couple of games which acted as ice breakers and helped the people to shed their inhibitions. After the improv-session, everyone moved over to the performance area and settled down on comfortable pillows to begin an evening full of art and creativity. As the evening progressed, the audience was enthralled by various performances including slam poetry and live art. While the stand up comedy acts left everyone in splits of laughter, the musical performances made them tap their feet and sway to the soulful melodies. The event also witnessed the art of storytelling where the performer transported the entire crowd to a different world through her captivating words and soothing voice.
The evening came to an end with the performance by an acoustic band, Loose Puppets. With an aesthetic vibe and electrifying energy, the evening proved to be a happy one which not only gave everyone an exquisite experience but also left them eagerly waiting for the next event.
