Tri-city celebrated yet another edition of the biggest flea market festival ‘PopNshop’ this year on March 11th and 12th. The extravagant festival brought to the city by Soulbowl, supported by Chandigarh Administration turned out to be bigger and better than ever.

The festival went cashless as Digital methods were available to ease out the situation for the people who enjoyed the festival throughout the weekend. The festival offered something for all age groups, from a wide range and variety of exquisite designer wear to accessories and footwear, lip-smacking snacks to refreshing drinks and a line- up of live band performances enchanting the audience.

The festival was a heavenly paradise for all shopaholics, art lovers and foodies in the tricity. The festival was not just about shopping, it also compelled the visitors to channelize their creative juices with all the art stalls and creative indoor and outdoor decor options. Tricity’s most loved homegrown flea market festival brought various budding designers, entrepreneurs and artists under a single platform. The stall ‘SD Fine Arts’ by Sharad Dabra received a lot of appreciation in the festival as he brought out his art concepts in the form of metal-art and coffee paintings. Sharad explained, “The metal-art is the USP of my stall as this concept is something new and fresh for the city residents”.

Designer labels like ‘Asmara’, ‘AKM Designer Arcade’, ‘Kanjana’, ‘Attractions and Spruce Girl’ bought their best of collection to showcase in the festival. From Indo-western wear to party dresses, traditional wear to formal shirts, party gown to bridal trousseau, these designer surely fulfilled your wardrobe essential needs.

The festival offered various stalls to entice your appetite and provide you with flavorful experiences. Starting with ‘Food Express‘, it offered lip-smacking Kathi Rolls and Tikkas to Chokhi Dhani, proving how the commonest ingredients of Dal, Baati and Churma can give you an unusual flavor-some high. The star attraction among the food stall was the MasterChef fame Kandala Nijhowne who bought her exclusive bakery goods to the festival. MasterChef Kandala exclaimed, “City beautiful has a lot to offer to the foodies nowadays with the growing food culture”. ‘Kheti Virasat’ was a delight for organic food lovers as it bought fresh organic grown produce to the city. Markfed’s stall gained momentum with its launch of  ‘ready to eat’ food range. ‘Raiddy Bar’ by Peddlers proved that it is a brand worth by serving refreshingly original and twisted drinks concept.

Artists like Quiddity, SD Fine Arts and Artists Unites gained a lot of appreciation with their unique art exhibits.  The various events and performances held during the course of the first day of the festival were Kavitactic, Song of the Ghetto, Saby and Dhruv Anguish. The finer-performance by Saby and Jordan Johnson Trio created a flawless ambience, the presence of both going to the credits of the artist programming partners of PopNshop 2017, Worker Bee. 

The second innings of this festival attracted the foodies with its delicious platter of a variety of food stalls. There were stalls of sparkling and exquisite jewellery for all occasions. The kid’s zone offered special offers on toys for children, and arrangements for games and fun activities.

With the motive of promoting small businesses and start-ups in the city, the organisers had specific zones for everyone. With multiple stalls by budding designers, offering clothes for different occasions the festival served as a platform for the former.

There were stalls put up by three NGO’s– ‘Choti si Asha’, ‘Human Hope Foundation’, and ‘Healing Himalayas’ which had handmade products like bags, folders, carry bags, and diaries.

The main highlight was the artist lineup with a number of bands performing live for the audience. ‘The Music Room’, ‘Five Strings’, ‘Jordon Johnson Trio’, ‘ Loose Puppets’, ‘Kru172’, ‘Miracle Drugg’ filled the atmosphere with their musical notes and got an overwhelming response from music lovers.

Sanchit Das, founder and organiser of the festival, said “The festival was organised with a motive to promote the city’s small businesses and start-ups, to give these people some platform to showcase their talent.” The fun and frolic flea market festival ended on a happy note and has enthralled the city residents with its distinctive range of stalls and performances.
