The Post Graduate Govt. College, Sector-11 kick started the first day of its 64th annual sports festival on November 18th, 2016. The fest was held in the sports ground of the physical educational department. The chief guest of the day, Sh. Mukesh Anand (Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration) expressed his gratitude on being invited to such an important event of the college.
The event started as the senior under officer Kulwant Singh (Army Wing), who had also led the army contingent on republic day, sought the permission from the chief guest in his commander intone. A commendably synchronized march past by the athletes, NCC cadets, B.P.Ed/ M.P.Ed students, general stream students and the girls of science, IT, BBA and PG was presented on the beats of Chandigarh Police Band. After the march past halted, the torch was lit passed through the runners who had won medals in National and a regional championship of various sports. The mass display followed by the torch lighting earned a huge applaud from the spectators. Ms. Anisha Negi (M.P.Ed. II), a bronze medal holder in senior national netball championship March 2016, took the oath for the day after the college flag was unfurled.
A series of events were headed and the commentators did a great job in making the crowd aware of the happenings. The events viz. 5000m race, shot-put, long jump, 100m and 400m heat, 4x100m relay race, discus throw, hammer throw, pole vault, 110m hurdle, 2km and 3 km steeplechase were conducted.
The first place was bagged by Parampreet Singh (BSc. III) and Tundup Dolker (B.P.Ed III) in 5000m race; Harmanvir Singh (B.P.Ed IV) in high jump; Sunny Thakur (B.Com III), Gurtinderpal Singh (BSc Non-Med), Maninder Singh, Pramila Kumari (BBA III) and Neha (B.P.Ed.- IV) in shot put; Saurabh (B.Com II), Kamini (B.P.Ed III), Pramila Kumari (BBA III) and Himanshu (Bsc I) in long jump; the medals and certificates were given in the end and the victorious faces were beautiful to behold.
The athletic aura of the ground was eminent with racers sprinting, hurdles being flawlessly crossed, and winners flaunting their medals. The spectators and participants had all the energy, eagerness and enthusiasm mustered up for the oncoming day of this fest as they left.
