In a recent meeting with the Senate, the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Arun Kumar Grover stated that, “The major concern of the house should be that the University will shut down after next semester on January 1, 2017 if the government does not clear its revised non-plan budget.” Seeking assistance from the Union Minister for Human Resource Department, Prakash Javadekar, a member of the syndicate, Dyal Pratap Singh Randhawa said that, “The Senate should pass a resolution inviting MHRD to the University so that we can explain the financial crisis to them. The government needs to fund its universities properly”. While the future of the students of the varsity lies at stake, the senators associated to Congress tend to play the blame game, claiming the Centre for starving the institute.
Panjab University was ranked number one amongst universities in India, and ranked 363 in the Thomson Reuters-powered ‘Best Global Universities Rankings 2016’ by US News and Global Report. But if the situation doesn’t tends to change, the future of Panjab University will turn out to be dark.
