One billion Rising is a global movement, founded by Eve Ensler, to end rape and sexual violence against women. It was started in 2012 as a part of the V-Day movement. According to a statistic study, one in ever three women is raped and beaten at least once in her lifetime. So, on a global level, the number rises up to a billion.
Growing furiously, the movement managed to join hands with over 200 countries in a span of merely four years. And India is a member of the organisation as well.
On account of OBR, the NGO, Sanjh Jagori, of Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh conducted a flash mob in GCG 11, GCG 42, Sector 17, in the University Campus and some nearby villages, creating awareness regarding raping women and the ill effects associated with it. The students performed skits, plays, dance performances to convey the message in a peaceful way.
The NGO basically sponsors free education for girls. It collects funds, provides books and other study material to the underprivileged female section of the society.
In addition to the flash mob, the NGO organised events inside the college campus as well, exclusively for the college students, all in association with the OBR.
OBR conducts events on 14th of February, Valentine’s day, to send a strong message to people to stop forcing their will on women, and to start loving and respecting them. The flash mob, spread the same message, acting as an eye opener for many, creating a difference.
