“A concerted effort to preserve our heritage is a vital link to our cultural, educational, aesthetic, inspirational and economic legacies- all of the things that quite literally make us who we are.”- Steve Berry

India is home to various archaeological sites and rich cultural architecture. However, the dejected part is that most of the sites are left unprotected and unpreserved. They are deteriorating day by day. Thereby India is losing the gorgeous and varied heritage. The conservation of the heritage is considered significant to secure the long term interest of society whether be economic, cultural or environmental. Most buildings are capable of beneficial use and can be used as economically viable enterprise.

The art restoration has become the profession of trained personnel in 21st century and is very famous profession across the borders. However, it has not gained much popularity in India till now.

The most necessary skill that is required in this prospect is passion for the art along with being meticulous, detail oriented and patient. The skills varies according to the restoration projects for example, restoring the woven tapestry of medieval period requires knowledge in textiles and restoring paintings of 19th century requires a chemistry background and in depth knowledge of oil paintings and canvas.
