Panjab University’s law auditorium echoed with the names of the ‘Dhakad Girls’, Geeta and Babita Phogat who came to attend the celebration of 10 years of 94.3 MY FM on February 14th, 2017. The event titled ‘Dus da Jashan’ started on a whole new level of energy with the hosting by RJ Geet, which as her hosting continued, increased in essence and did not go low. The address of Chandigarh’s Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal, wherein she made the audience pledge for ‘Swatchh Bharat Abhiyaan’ and talked about the contribution of the radio station(s) towards the welfare of the city, fitted edge to edge in the event as the contribution of the team of 94.3 MYFM in general and RJ Geet in specific stood out brightly.
Everyone clapped and shouted in excitement as the Phogat sisters arrived in the Audi. They started the talk show by sharing an interesting anecdote where an officer was harassing Geeta to compensate him for a scratch on his car, Babita, remarking casually said, “Voh badtameez tha, maine bhi for do chaar laga diye!” The talk further ventured into the Dangal sisters reminiscing their old days, when they used to be grilled by their father for practice. They shared the tricks they used to apply to skip their practices or sneak in an extra hour of television which included switching off the alarm clock, hiding the batteries of torch and using water bottles to depict sweat, draining invertors’ battery by attaching it to the fridge and another hundreds of them!
Geeta and Babita, in a rather funny manner, shared their first experience of having non-vegetarian food. They had to hog down 10 boiled eggs the first time they had non-veg. “Ek-do ande kaun khaata hai, kam se kam 10 toh khao”, is what they remember their father telling them to persuade them to eat. Talking about the role of her mother in their growing up years, Geeta mentioned, “Mama ne bhi hamesha papa ki side hi li hai.”
Other RJs of 94.3 MYFM, RJ Meenakshi, RJ Golmaal Gagan, RJ Manav and RJ Jassi kept the audience intrigued throughout. Then, in a rather elongated rapid fire round, the Dhakad girls were required to answer a question or have a ‘Golgappa’, where Geeta talked about her bollywood crush, Sunny Deol, also imitating his infamous dialogue of “Dhai kilo ka haath”. Geeta preferred having a Golgappa over ranking her sisters in the order of her favorites fearing the ‘Dangal’ that is going to start at home over it. Both the sisters showed a lot of enthusiasm talking about each other’s irritating habit, when talking of Geeta’s stubbornness, Geeta mentions cheerfully, “Zidd se hi hum yaha pohonche, zidd karo duniya badlo”.
The event ended on a happy note, with both the sisters thanking the audience for their love and support, and promising to pay a visit again in no time!
