The Pink Chain Of Hope celebrated the month of October as the Breast Cancer Awareness month, with a walk-a-thon organized at Sukhna Lake on October 29th, 2015. The event aimed at spreading awareness among the masses about breast-cancer, with the theme being to “support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken and never ever giving up on hope”.
The concept of organsing a walk-a-thon was brought about by nine enthusiastic women, headed by Mrs. Meera Singh, to extend a helping hand to the patients of breast cancer in underprivileged sections of society. The entire set up ranging from the clothes to the lightning was based on the color Pink, it being the symbol of “early detection and prompt treatment of breast-cancer”.
The walk commenced at around 5pm and went on to cover the entire Sukhna track. Among the participants of the event were children from different schools of the tricity, students of MCM DAV College along with the members of Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society. To add the pink power, many breast cancer survivors were seen equally excited and zealous being a part of the event.
The event took a leap from just being a walk-a-thon as the participants were provided the facility of on-the-spot scans by Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 and free mammograms by Fortis Hospital for up to 400 individuals.
The total fund raised during the event was handed over to the NGO, Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society and the entire walk-a-thon reflected solidarity to fight against the cause.
