Panjab University (PU) students celebrated World Health Day with enthusiasm and fervour here today. The Centre for Public Health, PU organised health camp, exercise camp and other awareness activities at the Student Centre in PU Campus.
The Students, research scholars and faculty of Centre for Public Health participated in various events. The PU students and other visitors were awakened on how to “beat diabetes” by taking simple steps for prevention. They were sensitised about the need of early diagnosis, treatment and care.
A free health check up camp was also organised by the students and research scholars, where blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index was measured. BMI helps in predicting the probability of occurrence of diabetes. Awareness regarding healthy eating and regular exercise was also done. The students also participated in signature campaign.
The students encouraged visitors and others students to participate in the exercise camp and all participants enjoyed basic exercise steps along with other activities like aerobics , dancing, push ups. The initiative was very much appreciated by one and all present there.
The Coordinator, Centre for Public Health Dr. Suman Mor said that the awareness drive received a very encouraging response from the people and the students. Especially, the youth were very inquisitive to know about the importance of BMI, weight control and management, food items of high and low glycemic index, role of salt and sugar in routine life.
