Arguendo, the annual law fest of the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) commenced on February 2nd, 2017 with loads of zeal and zest. Arguendo is an academic fest which aims at refining the skills of the budding lawyers by providing them a plinth to exhibit their public speaking, linguistic and creative craftiness.
Day 1 of the fest pitched in a good count of potential lawyers. It not only witnessed a number of convincing arguments cutting one another, but also raised the expectation from the next two days of Arguendo. On the second day of Arguendo i.e. February 3rd, the promising lawyers contested in the quarter-final and semi-final rounds of the 3rd All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition, 2017 and preliminary and quarter-final rounds of the 6th UILS National Client Counselling Competition, 2017.
Students from all over India participated in these legal contests. Teams from Amity Law School, Delhi; SLS, Pune; School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore and Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai entered the semi-final bout of the 3rd All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition, 2017.
Eminent jury members of the District and Sessions Court, Chandigarh such as S. Balbir Singh, Mr. J.S. Sidhu, Mr. Atul Kasana and Mr. Harish Anand interacted with the students and guided them.
The Carnival’17, UILS annual fete was inaugurated by Dr. Emanual Nahar, Dean Students’ Welfare, Panjab University and Prof. Rattan Singh. Stalls showcasing varieties of food stuffs, games and music were put up. It provided a soupçon of fresh air to the students who were busy with clinical legal activities.
A special stall to promote clean eating for a healthy lifestyle was set up by students in order to encourage them to inculcate healthy food habits.
Driti Mehta, a third year Law student told PU Mirror that fests like Arguendo is a break from normal monotonous routine and make college life memorable. She further added that these fest provide good exposure to deal with upcoming career difficulties.
For the third day i.e. February 4th, the final rounds of the All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition’ 17; and the semi-final and final rounds of the 6th UILS National Client Counseling Competition, 2017 are scheduled.
The bench comprised of Senior Advocate KTS Tulsi, a Panjab University alumnus and an eminent Supreme Court lawyer along with honourable judges of the Panjab and Haryana High Court and Ms. Anu Chatrath, Dean Law Faculty, who would grace the event with their august presence.
