This book is filled with pages where all you want to do is go through them and giggle and some where you want to curl up in a ball and cry like there is no tomorrow.

I was surprised to find this book in the children’s section of the bookstore I went to but ever since the book came out on 15th April, 2015 I’ve had a hankering for it  and I cannot lie! It’s funny how he’s just 22 years old and is writing an intimate memoir because the impression I had was that people usually write a memoir after years of experience and want to contribute to the world but the book when you read it, there’s something for everyone in it, the writing style of Connor’s book is completely different it’s got the pictures that he’s taken of him, his family, friends and the places he’s travelled to, .. All his pictures were interesting and since he took the pictures himself, it really makes me question his creativity. His pictures were the cherry on top of the cake, with or without, it would still be a serene piece of art . It’s like you’re sitting next to him and he is narrating his story to you especially the line from the chapter called creativity “Be a lawyer, be a doctor or a teacher”, they say  but there’s one thing they can’t hear: “the silent beat of creativity within you- that calling beckoning you to trust your gut , follow your heart, and  do what your soul demands. You can never articulate to others what you feel in your bones because you rarely understand it yourself”

And the one that follows that the number of times that he has a bomb ass idea but can’t explain to anyone, All. The. Time.  Franta is a youtube sensation and a global trendsetter with millions of followers and many other social media platforms. He is founder of Common Culture Coffee and works closely with The Thirst Project, a charity that provides clean drinking water in Africa and he has even toured the state of Swaziland. The book not only has a very aesthetic design  but is the most instagrammed book of all times because every reader takes a very fancy photo of the book and uploads it with the hashtag #aworkinporgress he has set a global trend in the world as it was trending  at one time and there’s still new photos to bless your feed every time you refresh!  His book can inspire anyone from any age and relate to his journey from his teenage issues of  identity, body image, and sexuality in his teen years; and his decision to finally pursue his creative and artistic passions in his early twenties, setting up his thrilling career as a YouTube personality, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and tastemaker.

Exploring his past with humour, his present with humility, and his future with hope, Connor reveals his private struggles while providing heartfelt words of wisdom for young adults. His words will resonate with anyone coming of age in the digital era, but at the core is a timeless message for people of all ages: don’t be afraid to be yourself and to go after what you truly want.

I know I’ve been a fangirl ever since 2014  when  I stumbled upon the YouTube videos by the collab channel Our Second life which featured him and each week all the Our Second Life Members would put different videos around one theme and Connor would take everyone’s heart by his playful humor, acting and American  accent though he’s from La Crecent, Minnesota initially.   It was only in 2016 when Franta came to Mumbai for the YouTube Fanfest 2016 and I was yearning to go as meeting the star would’ve been something so huge and I would’ve given anything away to go this trip but I couldn’t make it unfortunately. That’s when his Dad, Peter John Franta saw my instagram post and sent me his autographed copy via mail and It was a surreal experience, It made me the happiest of humans and that’s how I think I’ve been really lucky to receive it and I can’t thank the both of them enough.  But his journey to the top was not an easy one, his life was filled with struggles. Not just any struggles; internal conflict, the inability to accept himself. As easy as it sounds, he explained that it’s possibly the hardest thing in life. If you cannot accept and be happy with who you are then you cannot expect others to do that too. You cannot be happy. And that is unacceptable; all human beings have equal rights to live a happy and just life. But was he able to find his happiness?

Connor Franta had me captivated throughout his book. It was really difficult for me to put his book down. His book was not only beautifully written but also presented very well. This book is worth a read whether you are 13 or 30, it has a lot of truth and inspires you to be you. To do what you do. To accept you. Or just for a good laugh and it’s a must have for anyone who wishes to follow his dreams and his inner voice.
